Jack Natari

Jack Natari was born in Rae’laquaxaatar (Rat City) in the country of Raelak. A hybrid rat-human of the Natari tribe, Jack was abandoned at birth and spent his tumultuous youth at odds with the Sikkim Empire who had conquered his homeland.

A skilled thief, Jack orchestrated an attack against Sikkim and was subsequently imprisoned and sentenced to death for his crimes. Under strange circumstances he was pardoned and released from the dungeon. Instead of returning to his life in Rat City, Jack set out into the Vastness of Blask on a quest for knowledge.

Mephiliaxus
The mysterious being known as Mephiliaxus dwells in Blask Castle a few leagues north of the citadel of Vargoushh. While few know of the dragon’s existence, even fewer know of his true origins and the secrets he protects within the castle's walls. Some find his outlandish claims delusional and cite his exaggerations as proof of his insanity. Others, such as Daiarck and the Vargoushh army have taken his claims to heart and stood by his side to defend the citadel.

When Jack Natari is brought before him, Mephiliaxus tells him of the forgotten history of Raleak and sends him into the Underground Forest to confront Rega IV and his Scourlagg army who seek to destroy the citizens of Vargoushh.

Lord Kaai

Lord Kaai was high Priest of the remote Rat Temple of Irisius. While not a rat himself, Kaai was a senior member of the temple council and—with much of the sacred scripture being destroyed in Jack’s home of Raelak—he is one of few versed in the rats’ history and culture. It was he who first discovered Jack wandering in the desert starving and near death; bringing him as a disciple into the temple’s order.

The Woman from Iltharra
The unnamed woman from Iltharra aimlessy roams the Vastness with her two closest friends indiscriminately killing and robbing to survive. Leaving her war-torn nation of Iltharra many years previous, she has a burning hate for all rats—blaming them for the murder of her family and the destruction of her homeland.

Devising a plot to destroy Baron Noongar in Oorg’s Canyon, her scheme is thwarted by Jack Natari who seeks revenge for her betrayal of him and his companions.

Baron Noongar
The Baron came to the Citadel of Xiar many years ago when the Vastness was a little known and sparsely populated land. Using his financial wealth to explore and invest in the development of the region, Noongar became a highly respected member of Xiar’s
citadel council.

When his crimes against the citadel’s youth came to light he was brought to trial. Seeing the folly of imprisoning the lifeblood of the Xiar economy, the council leaders bartered for his release behind closed doors which absolved him of all guilt. Enraged citizens then stormed his lair to destroy him. Amazingly, what little of him was left survived the violent ordeal. Skilled physicians were summoned from afar to repair the Baron using experimental medicine. The limbless wretch then regained his position on the citadel’s council with his new form an eerie reflection of his dark desires.

Rega IV
Son of the warlord Rega III who led the invasion of Raelak in decades previous, Rega IV carries on his father’s legacy leading the remnants of the Scourlagg army in the wasteland of Iax. An unmerciful tyrant who rules through terror and brutality, Rega is also an educated man who spent his youth in the libraries of Rat City aborbing the sacred literature that was forbidden to all rats.

The South Men
The South Men dwell in the frozen tundra deep in the Unexplored Regions. Amoral slavers, these strange beings rove the fringes of civilization abducting travelers and raiding villages to swell the ranks of their work force. Without vision or hearing, they communicate with each other telepathically and interact with the world around them through a serpentine tongue which senses the emotions of other life forms.

Jack Natari had the misfortune of spending many weeks as a slave in their mines before managing to escape into the tundra and traveling north to The Vastness of Blask.

Zaug
Zaug is one of the South Men’s most trusted slaves and leader of Jack’s division. Physically imposing yet slow of mind, Zaug bests Jack on many occasions until the young rat turns the tables on his leader.

Daiarck R'axaka Amaaz'ak
Daiarck R'axaka Amaaz'ak was born to merchant traders from the citadel of Vargoushh. While crossing the Wasteland of Iax Daiarck's caravan was ambushed by marauders and the entire family was slaughtered. After wandering for days the infant Daiarck was found by indegenous tribes from the Unexplored Regions and raised to adulthood as one of their own and eventually rose rising to becoming a leader in their ranks.

The tribe was loyal to the dragon Mephiliaxus and Daiarck soon became general of his small army who defended Vargoushh from the Scourlagg threat. Unrelentless in defending the citadel, Daiarck is a hardenned and bold warrior hiding many secrets behind a metal mask.
